Okay so February was a slower reading month for me because…well…life, pregnancy, baby-prep, ya know. BUT I did read a good one that I’m excited to share with you guys! Last month I read a book by Taylor Jenkins Reid (‘The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo”) and I really fell in love with her writing. It kept me engaged the whole way through and I couldn’t wait to pick up my next book by her… so here goes …
‘Daisy Jones & The Six: A Novel’ by Taylor Jenkins Reid
This book is totally different than any other style book I’ve read before which was refreshing in every way possible. For starters, it’s set up like you’re reading/watching a VH1 Behind the Music episode as the entire book is an interview of the cast of characters & band members of a band called “The Six”. The main character, Daisy Jones, is intoxicating with her hippie vibe and independent sexual nature. She’s the free-spirit that sometimes I think we all wish we could indulge in more but so over the top that it’s totally unrealistic and rockstar behavior.
Set in the late 60’s/early 70’s, Daisy takes the band from good to great & creates all sorts of drama in between. And while I loved the drama of the band and the songwriting and the music, if I’m being totally honest my favorite character of all was Camila, the lead singer Billy Dunne’s wife. She was behind the scenes figuratively and literally but had this amazing perspective on life, love & marriage, and family that she would drop in at the perfect times.
4 out of 5 stars. Is it too soon in my book review blogging path to use the 5 star phrasing?! Okay, I’ll drop a 4 star because really, I loved this book. It hooked me & kept me intrigued and I would definitely recommend it.
While the book & the band is 100% fictional, it is said to be loosely based on the rumors surrounding Fleetwood Mac. Which is pretty cool. Also pretty cool is that Reese Witherspoon & Amazon studios is set to make this into a series so stay tuned!
